To reproduce:

  1. Type 1234 (or any string) in the composer.
  2. Type an @ before the 1234 (to get @1234)
  3. Select someone from the dropdown.
  4. Hit backspace 2 or 3 times
  5. Select the person from the dropdown again.
  6. The beginning of the 1234 gets deleted.
