Weird: reply edit not displaying, and indicated as written in French when it was in English

Hey everyone, it’s been a while (brain misbehaving and work taking a lot of space) – just dropped in to leave a comment here and something weird is happening, I don’t know if it’s “me” or if it’s a “site problem”: Compositeur rempalce les caractère specieux - #12 by stephtara

First of all, the little translation thingy tells me the post was originally written in French – it wasn’t, I wrote in English:

Second, I edited my post not long after writing it to add some extra information, and my edit isn’t showing up, although I can see it by clicking on the “edited” pen:

Am I doing something wrong, or is this a bug – or a normal limitation I’m not understanding (maybe because I was away for some time?)

You have used “French”. That’s often enough for AI to think you wrote in French.

You can manually set the language before submitting or after detection by using this button in the composer.

Regarding your second issue, I think the problem is that you aren’t looking at the original but the “English translation”. Your first screenshot says the post has been edited since it was translated, and the translation might be outdated (and the orange color of the icon also indicates that).

To me, it seems that the translations have been updated in the meantime. Is that correct? I could enforce an update if it’s still needed. (But I don’t think I have the permission to update the detected locale; if you want French users to be able to get a French translation, you will need to fix that. Currently, they will see the original because AI decided it’s French.)

:fearful:  “French” isn’t even a French word :exploding_head:

Thanks, I edited the post and fixed the language…

Right, the explanation for the edits not being visible makes sense now!

Indeed. German isn’t a German word either, but it was frequently detected as German. Artificial intelligence isn’t intelligence :woman_shrugging:
