Discourse AI create user error

AI-generated summary

A bug in the Discourse AI plugin causes an error when creating user accounts, resulting in a RuntimeError (User already exists) Truest. The issue occurs during the creation of AI personas, where the system attempts to create a user with a name already in use. Sam Saffron suggests deleting or renaming the conflicting bot, but the user reports that the problem persists even after disabling other personas. Truest notes that the bot’s name was unexpectedly shared with another persona, and the issue began after a sequence of enabling and disabling personas, culminating in an internal error. Sam requests repro steps but closes the issue as stale, though the problem may still exist.

I’m getting this error even though the account doesn’t exist.

  1. an incorrect user is created that doesn’t match my persona.
  2. For example, if i try to create a Setup Helper AI account, it creates a GitHub AI account.
  3. I’ve tried deleting and retrying multiple times, but it didn’t work.
  4. In some cases, the creation did not work, returning an Interner error as I repeated the delete creation multiple times.

Hopefully this error will be fixed soon.

This looks very odd…

2 things you can do

  • Delete the bot which will detach it.
  • Rename the bot to correct name.

Very odd it is creating wrong account name, will try it out locally.

In some cases, alternatives 1 and 2 above were not feasible because

What’s also strange is that my research bot was disabled. And no attempt was made to create a user account. However, at some point, I started sharing the name of another bot I created.

I hope this is resolved.

I really need a repro here, totally get that this happened but ideally some step by step details of how we got there would be helpful.

  1. enable only what i need and disable the rest *see photo

  2. of the ones I enabled, it started creating users sequentially from the top.
  3. it was creating fine until Github Helper, then suddenly Setting Explorer stopped creating bots and returned an Interner error window. After that, I refreshed the page, and another existing bot, Discourse Helper, was taking its place. *see picture

  4. I then entered the edit window of the deactivated persona. I didn’t try to create it, but it was sharing the name of another bot that I had previously activated. Example: Artist : Discourse Helper, Researcher : Github Helper. *see photo
