A feature request has been made to add a setting for a fixed-width/monospace font in the composer. Andrew15-5 wants the ability to use a monospace font for the entire composer textarea, not just for code blocks, similar to GitHub’s Markdown editor font preference. A workaround currently exists using a third-party browser extension with custom CSS, but a built-in setting would be more ideal. Jagster initially misunderstood the request, thinking it was about code fences, but Firepup650 clarified that the request is for a global monospace font setting for the composer.
But… when using code fences, the font is always monospace. What I don’t understand now? Should the composer show monospace before ending the code fence? If so… why? Wouldn’t it be easier to put the code fences and then start writing between those?
"A more general/global version of Activate monospace font inside codeblocks in the post editor " here means that I don’t want a monospace font just for a code block but for the whole composer textarea, hence the title (“monospace font in composer”).
