Our AdSense ad setup has been the same for many years, pratically since we moved to Discourse almost 10 years ago at Tappara.co. Now however I got an idea to trial Nth post ad placement instead of fixed banner positions at the top and bottom locations.
It has been many years since I have even looked at the AdPlugin settings and now I find it a bit confusing with several findings:
- In the settings tab it is shown as “House Ads”, which in my mind refers to in-house served ad units and not 3rd party (AdSense etc.)
- It has a setting Adsense nth post code, with description Show an ad after every N posts, where N is this value. Which is it? The Nth interval value, or the AdSense unit code number?
- There is only one setting field with name or description that matches the Nth post use case.
- For Dfp the there are two settings:
- Dfp post bottom code: Enter the unique Code of the ad unit to display in between posts after every nth post. This is the short code (max 100 chars) given to the ad unit when it was created, not the JavaScript code.
- Dfp nth post code: Show an ad after every N posts, where N is this value.
After some 30 minutes of trial and error, I was not able to get any AdSense units shown in between Nth posts.
