The issue of not being able to mute system messages is being discussed. Drew_Warwick initially reported that even after muting the “system” user, they still received notifications. Yuun pointed out that the setting “disable edit notifications” can be enabled to prevent notifications from the system user when downloading local copies of images. However, codinghorror clarified that system messages and staff (admins and moderators) cannot be muted by design. Lilly also discovered that although staff members can be added to the mute field, the system overrides it, and notifications are still received.
The Discourse forum I’m using downloads local copies of embedded images, and it sends you a notification every time it does this. This doesn’t affect me and is unimportant and irrelevant to me, so I decided to mute the “system” user:
After doing so though, I still get notifications from system and they create a notification bubble over my avatar:
So I guess this topic is kind of two things in one:
The system account cannot be muted
Downloading local copies of images shouldn’t notify the poster
