Users are reporting that the Font Awesome Pro plugin is not changing all default icons in Discourse. DavidTCole initially flagged the issue, noting that icons like fa-layer-group, fa-comment, and fa-inbox aren’t displaying the expected ‘fa-light’ variant DavidTCole. Arkshine identified that some icons, like layer-group and inbox, were missing from the plugin’s manual list, and the comment icon had a naming discrepancy (d-chat vs comment). Arkshine submitted a pull request (#80) to address the missing icons, but it doesn’t cover Discourse-specific SVG custom icons. sam prioritized triaging the PR, and Osama announced that the PR has been merged, resolving the issue after a plugin update.
The older topics about the plugin don’t have any guidance on this specific issue that I could find. I thought maybe it was a FA5 vs FA6 naming issue but that’s not the case with fa-layer-group, fa-comment, fa-inbox and others that are not displaying the ‘fa-light’ variant of the icons.
Any tips or tricks or is this a bug? The official topic on the plugin seems like it might not have be updated to really work with FA6 but it’s hard to tell.
Happy to help if I can, just let me know! There’s many more I can see browsing, especially in the admin sidebar. Thanks.
So for the ones like fa-comment that are reserved by Discourse, is the best course of action to use a different unreserved icon like fa-message or what have you?
I made a PR to fill in the missing FA icons. However, it still misses the additional SVG custom icons specific to Discourse. This will be left for another PR.
