Users are reporting the disappearance of the search bar from the Discourse interface. The issue seems to stem from a recent change in how the welcome banner – which includes the search bar – is managed. Cate_Soule initially noticed the search bar was missing and disabled, then couldn’2t find the setting to re-enable it [Cate_Soule](/t/-/374417/3, /t/-/374417/6, /t/-/374417/8). Ethsim2 wondered if it related to a similar advanced search issue Ethsim2. Initially, it was mistaken for a site setting [NateDhaliwal](/t/-/374417/5, /t/-/374417/7), but NateDhaliwal discovered the setting is now theme-based after a recent update NateDhaliwal. The Discourse version of Cate_Soule is 3.5.0.beta8-dev. Ultimately, Cate_Soule found the setting within the theme settings thanks to [NateDhaliwal](/t/-/374417/12, /t/-/374417/13).
Is this the same problem?![]()
Maybe. It was disabled for me, and now I can’t find it to enable it again.
are you self-hosting with your own server or did you opt for an official hosting with discourse.org
Is it the Welcome Banner?
Yes. But it is missing now.
Hi there, is the setting enable_welcome_banner enabled?
Could you share your Discourse version? Thanks.
3.5.0.beta8-dev. I used to see it a few a days ago now it’s gone.
Okay, I think I’ve got it. The setting is not a site setting, but it seems to be a theme setting. Look at the themes that are the default (e.g. Foundation/Horizon), it should be in there.
This might be part of this recent update.
Found it! Thank you @NateDhaliwal !!
Glad you found it
