As part of our overhaul of category setup [1][2][3], we’ve created a complete directory of categories and their specific types for easier visibility and management. The new Category management page (/admin/config/category-management) shows a list of all categories on the site and the following details:
Category name, visibility (i.e. public or private), and topic count
For our hosted customers on plans which do not currently support certain category types, an upgrade prompt will be shown. For example the Discourse Events plugin is not available on any tier lower than Business:
Especially for the sites with no access to the /categories page due to different homepage configuration, this will provide the much needed overview page.
From the screenshots i cannot see but will the all categories page also allow drag&drop action to change sorting order of the categories?
Second question / feature request: Could the All categories page have a button to create a new category as well?
I often find it odd that I need to visit the /categories page to create a new category, even if I am trying to add a subcategory for the category page I am already on.
Nope, this is not easy enough JK but I do often forget that categories can have a specific order based on site configuration…will have a think about it but no promises.
I think I will also change the badge to link directly to the category page with the topic list too, it’s a bit awkward to go “Open settings” then “Back to category” to get there.
