Translation of posts not always updated

AI-generated summary

The user monty25 reports an issue where AI-generated translations are not automatically updated when posts are edited, specifically noting that edits to other users’ posts fail to trigger translation updates, while edits to one’s own posts do. Using ai_api_audit_logs and /logs, monty25 confirmed that the system did not process the translation for the edited post by another user until the manual “update translations” button was clicked. Running Discourse version 2026.7.3, the user inquires how to ensure translations update reliably for all posts upon editing, mentioning a typical use case of making one edit per day to remove PII or correct typos.

The translations of updated posts do not always get updated, even when it is the first edit.

For example on Odoo: Account.Move_Line heeft enkel kolommen, geen rijen - invantive I have edited post 8 and 9 as admin user.

Post 8 is from another user. According to the query below and /logs, the translations have not been updated.

Post 9 is by the admin user itself. The translations have been updated.

Query used in Data Explorer:

-- [params]
-- date :start_date = '2025-11-01'

SELECT
  feature_name,
  created_at,
  post_id,
  response_tokens
FROM
  ai_api_audit_logs
WHERE
  post_id IS NOT NULL
  AND created_at > :start_date
  AND (response_tokens IS NULL OR response_tokens != 1)
ORDER BY
  created_at DESC

Results contained post 9 but not 8:

Then used the forced “update translations” button on the post with indeed an update occurring of the translations:

How can I ensure the translations are updated for all posts when edited?

A limit of 2 edits per day is fine. Typically we need one edit to remove Personal Identifiable Information (GDPR) or remove typos.
