A flaw in the chat notifications system

Hi, there are currently issues with the chat integration. The problems and potential solutions are as follows:

  1. At the moment, enabling chat push notifications requires accessing a separate menu rather than having it integrated into the notifications menu.

  2. To activate push notifications, a user would still need to access the chat notifications menu after installing the PWA and turning on notifications.

  3. Sane defaults: perhaps give the administrator the ability to set up a toggle for sitewide push notifications, such as if desktop = email notifications and if pwa = push notifications (Of course, users can still toggle it on and off).

Suggestion:

  1. Combine the Notifications and Chat notifications menus into one.

  2. Push notifications for chat should be enabled whenever a user installs the PWA and turns on notifications via default prompt banner.

  3. Sane Defaults: if desktop = email notifications and if pwa = push notifications (Of course, users can still toggle it on and off).

Not everyone is an expert forum user, therefore if we wish to revive forums, we must make them easier to use and more user-friendly. Visit the website, be asked to install the PWA, enable notifications if desired, and you will receive a contemporary “app” for your phone that allows users to interact with minimal clicking and figuring.

I truly like using chat so far; it’s very smooth and well-designed. I appreciate all of the effort that has gone into chat and discourse.

Thank you.
