Ability to attach email addresses to default user group inboxes

We would like the ability to attach email settings to default user groups in Discourse. Our example would be moderators. We want the ability to have an email address for moderators that can go into their inbox. Because this setting is not visible for default Discourse user groups, we’ll have to create and manage a separate moderator user group and abandon the auto-generated user group.

What it looks like for normal user groups:

This isn’t the correct screenshot, right?

Yeah, I wonder if using a hardcoded email address can work for these default groups.

So your feature request would be to be able to see and toggle the incoming email value for default groups, and it’s OK if it’s a fixed value:

This is the correct screenshot. This is what it looks for a user group that I can create. But for system-generated user groups, it does not have this option.

Well, I don’t have that in any groups. But I don’t know if it depends how emails are configured generally in Discourse.

I am facing this right now as well. I think it would be a good idea for sites to be able to have an e.g. moderators@siteurl email address, so that people who are having trouble logging in or don’t even have an account can still reach out and have their queries handled through the same group inbox they use for handling flags, moderating discussions, and helping members with their accounts.

That email address could then be listed on the about page and in the TOS and privacy policy, for moderator related inquiries.

You’d still need an email address external to the site so you can be reached in case your site goes down or has some serious technical problem.

There is a risk of spam but that’s what automatic spam flagging is for!
