I think the arrows above are a good compromise.
I just posted a topic about this today because I’ve looked multiple times to figure out how to access the admin profile and could never do it (did finally realize you could do it through the main admin panel, but more annoying).
On none of my phones did I have ANY indication the wrench was there because it’s the exact perfect size, I straight up just thought it didn’t exist.

I agree you can’t just have endless icons, and by the sounds of the above posts it’s display dependent so you’d need some dynamically adjusting solution, but even a simple arrow (even just on the right side, because it defaults to the left and if you know there’s a right you know there’s a left) would make a massive difference.
