Automated Signatures?

They will use your plugin cause you are a good open source citizen who will open source it.

One day in the future we will have a directory and it will be trivial to find plugins.

I want to stress that I DO NOT get paid to post reviews or test products on this forum. Everything that is featured was bought by me or stated otherwise. Also, I do not offer money to feature anyone in my posts. Everything is contributed willfully and with honest intentions. If you are a company wanting me to review a product I will only give my honest opinion.

###If you are a TRUE geek you only need the punchline:

  • ā€œā€¦but a talking frog is cool!ā€
  • ā€œā€¦if one more person enters the building, it will be empty.ā€
  • ā€œNo, but I know where I am.ā€
  • ā€œYeah, her clothes probably wouldnā€™t have fit you, anyway.ā€
  • Those who know binary, and those who donā€™t.

If someone wants to build and use a plugin that adds signatures to Discourse, that is perfectly fine.

But yeah, we are quite opposed to this being in core.

And if you build a plugin for signatures, you better make DAMN sure they donā€™t display on mobiles:

I been reading from the beginning and I think many assessment is based only on per individual taste and does not reflect the real conditions of potential users out there.

Most members here are developers, and predictable that the majority of members do not require some sort of signature to promote their work, but what about the bloggers for example?

And members who are narcissistic and putting signature:

Iā€™m cool right?

If later is feared too much takes place why not make it more modern? expandable such as the ā€œ2 Reply ā€¦ā€

What we are talking about here is not to add signature on this forum right? but the product itself (Discourse). Anyway signature can be turned on and off so it depends on the owner of the forum.

If youā€™ve been reading from the beginning, then you know that @codinghorrorā€“the product managerā€“is adamantly opposed to building signatures into the core product. Once again, I reiterate: If you want signature functionality for your forum, build or commission a plugin.

I just wanted Discourse be a better product, this is an open source project so everyone is free to express his mind. Signature there are some downside, but much-much more useful in many scenario.

Eg. a lot of spam comments and whether we should eliminate the comment feature also? nope.

Try clicking on my name!

Youā€™ve got everything available - formatting, quotes, even pictures!

The ā€œAbout Meā€ card is the ā€˜new signatureā€™, if you want to call it that, except itā€™s hidden by default.

But that is not a signature  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_block#Internet_forums

What is the issue with a plugin?

Ah I know that is pretty disturbing @sam  plugin? sounds like not a bullet-proof for basic feature, bug here, there, here again, or API changesā€¦ oh wait the plugin not updated with the latest API, can not update the latest Discourse version yet etc.

Itā€™s like the difference of opinion about the default text editor in Drupal, and finally in Drupal 8, there is a default text editor.

But its okay, at least Iā€™ve revealed whatā€™s on my mind

You are describing theoretical problems, how about you start by writing the signature plugin?

So I had to learn a new programming language? speechless

Well forget about the signature

Iā€™m sure someone will build a plugin for signatures eventually. There is no problem with a good plugin infrastructure at all.

Iā€™m really in for some sort of usercard (like you have on gmail).

This is a must have for forums where an existing structure where people have positions and some formal responsibilities, that would be a good place to put info that is accessible and doesnā€™t pollute the whole page.

You mean user card like this:

Agree, its a great idea.

wow, i havenā€™t figured out that I need to ā€œclickā€ to see it. Could it also be shown as ā€œmouse overā€ event? (click must stay to be mobile ready)

gmail adds a 2 seconds delay before showing it, something similar could be used here to prevent massive requests.
