Can I run Discourse on the same DigitalOcean Droplet as my current NodeBB instance?

Hi all,

I’m currenty thinking about switching from NodeBB with MongoDB to Discourse. As I can see there are even migration scripts, that’s awesome.

Before doing so I would like to install Discourse on my DigitalOcean Droplet which is currently running Ubuntu with NodeBB on top of that. So I would install Discourse in parallel.

Are there any interferences I should expect, e.g. using same ports in some way or am I good to go?

Thanks in advance!

It’s possible, if you have a reverse proxy, and know how to configure it.

It’s much, much, easier to install on a separate droplet.

Thanks for your response. I assumed it. Just a matter of costs setting up a new droplet for testing. But before messing around with Nginx I will try a separate Droplet.

Even if you want to do it with a reverse proxy and one droplet, setting it up first by itself will probably save you some time. Also, discourse requires enough ram that you’d likely need to resize your existing droplet to at least 2 gb and maybe 4gb ram, so savings might be less than you think.
