Configable default view for polls - tally and results

We’re using Discourse events to plan club weekend activities. Within an event, we use polls to confirm attendance and gauge intentions or demand.

The results of polls are viewed frequently by people who are not voting. This is because they are involved in the back-office planning of the event. Over the course of a week, both voters and non-voters will revisit the page numerous times to see how the event is evolving.

In some cases, people who are about to vote, say to indicate intention to drive a particular car, will make their choice for an available car based on the fact that someone else already selected their preferred vehicle. This is another example of wanting to see the result before voting. We want the existing result to influence the next voter. We do not want to click “Results” to reveal that information. Within an event we have multiple polls tracking similar indicators, so clicking “Results” for each is a pain.

Finally, percentages aren’t meaningful in the context of our use. We want to see tallies by default without clicking a button to switch from percentages.

The request boils down to this: we want poll results revealed by default; we want tally to appear by default. We are happy to set those properties in the text block that defines each poll - we don’t care to use the Build Poll widget for that functionality.
