Our organization is currently leveraging WordPress, hosted on a managed server with Cloudways, to run our membership community. We are contemplating the introduction of a Discourse forum to further enrich the engagement within our community. Our main motivation is to benefit from its Single Sign-On (SSO) feature and integrate the two platforms seamlessly using the wordpress plugin.
However, we are aware of the current limitations of Cloudways, specifically its inability to support Discourse installations due to the absence of Docker functionality. In light of this, we have considered utilizing a DigitalOcean droplet to host our Discourse forum. Our proposition is to set up Discourse under a subdomain like discourse.domain.com, while maintaining our WordPress installation on Cloudways at domain.com. We believe this can be achieved by utilizing the Discourse WordPress plugin to bridge the two platforms.
Our ideal scenario is to continue hosting WordPress on Cloudways while incorporating Discourse. However, we are open to transitioning to DigitalOcean entirely if this proves to be the most efficient and feasible method to achieve our goal. We would greatly appreciate your guidance on this matter.
