I was unable to find a discussion of this, but are email notifications for chat messages on roadmap?
With blurring the line between forum and chat, there’s an increased chance that a message that requires a direct response will end in chat. That, in turn creates risks of the message being overlooked since there are no email notifications.

I believe email notifications will soon be a part of the Chat plugin.

Reintroduces feature originally added in #759 and later reverted in #803. We di… dn't revert migrations, so it's not necessary to add them in this commit.
his PR is similar to https://github.com/discourse/discourse-chat/pull/759 but doesn't use a new table to track which mentions and private messages need to be processed using a new table.

This can be managed via “Email Notifications” in Chat Preferences:
