Grant a badge to individual users manually

In this guide we’ll be creating a new “Scholar” badge that we will grant to individual users manually. Let’s get started!

:warning: This guide is only applicable for custom badges. To manually grant one of Discourse’s built in badges, you will need to follow: Award a badge to a set of users

Create a new custom badge

Create a new custom badge from the Admin > Badges page by clicking on “New” button.

Fill out badge details

In our example, I am naming the badge “Scholar” and setting the badge type to “Gold”.

Note that the badge image can either be a font awesome icon or an image URL. In this example, I chose the font awesome icon “graduation-cap”.

Extra details about image size if using an uploaded image:

Go to user admin page

When it’s time to grant a user the badge, navigate to their user admin page and click on “Edit Badges” button.

Select the badge

Select the badge you want to grant to the user. In our case the badge is “Scholar”. Now click on “Grant”.

Badge granted successfully!

If you visit the user’s profile page and select the “Badges” tab you will see the newly granted “Scholar” badge!

That’s it. Now go grant some badges to your users!
