This is just my opinion, but I’d ignore the site setting. You are going out of your way to provide the excerpt, whereas the site setting is there for the system automating the excerpt.

This does not work for me, or I’m not using it correctly:

I noticed that there was a SiteSetting.post_excerpt_maxlength setting. Which I assume is this:
I was hoping to change the length of a pinned topic/post excerpt. Upon digging into the code, I noticed this:
It appears 220 is being used for a (pinned) topic excerpt.
I was wondering what the SiteSetting.post_excerpt_maxlength setting did, and if the pinned topic excerpt length can be made into a setting?
I just discovered the initial post here and I’m a bit disappointed that the option to show only the first paragraph in the excerpt was not made.
Is it possible to do this with CCS? I would like to only show the first paragraph in the excerpt of pinned topics
Or perhaps is there a way to duplicate the first post so you can have one with the excerpt and one with a more in-depth message?
I know it seems like most of the Discourse Team are very protective of the post chronology (even though moving posts from another topic breaks the chronology)
