Being able to automatically delete replies that are older than x days is a nice feature.
It could be a nice alternative solution to hide stale replies older than x days. Allowing readers to expand and view older history if they wish.

@markersocial Did you find a solution to this? I was looking for how to delete old replies on Documentation topics, but hiding them would be even better
I know this is an old feature request, but I would find this very useful for our documentation site. I’d like to be able to hide replies after X days with a click to expand function on them.
This is particualy useful for documentation where comments can be distracting to readers, but they also can provide useful context and additional information.
There’s an aspect of what you’re suggesting built into the docs plugin now, which you can see here on meta.
We do hide comments on docs topics now, if you enter them via the docs index.
See the “Show 33 comments” button in the below screenshot:
Oh, that is useful - I didn’t know about the simple mode. I’ve just enabled that on my site and it meets my needs here.
A timed way of doing it would be a handy addition, although I realise the complexity involved there where some comments would be hidden once they hit the timer, while some wouldn’t. For my needs, just having them all collapsed by default is a great improvement and works really well.
The simplifed topic list for documentation categories is also a great improvement. The Doc Categories plugin is evolving really nicely here.
Thanks, Dave!
