Introducing fast edit

As of today it’s now possible to edit a small selection of a post in few clicks.

fast-edit

Can be disabled with the site setting: enable_fast_edit

Important:

  • If the code is not able to define with certainty which part of the post should be edited, it will fallback to open the composer.
  • It doesn’t work with discourse-encrypt ATM

Future improvement:

  • a keyboard shortcut

What a fantastically useful feature!

Great for quick typo-fixes

This feature is a game changer and a literal lifesaver. Half of what I use the “edit” function for is minor typos that I didn’t catch when typing a post. :star_struck:

Love it! Just last week I thought that something like this would be handy. Especially for very long posts I don’t have to scroll down all the way anymore.

Our mod team will love it!

This is one of those features I didn’t know I needed-- thanks, it’s awesome!

So cool! I used it just now where I typed “an” and needed “and”, and it rocks!

My mods will love this. Thank you!

Come on, Jay. You just did this so you could fast edit it. :slightly_smiling_face:

I don’t understand how people can still use things like Slack when there is such a feature rich, comprehensive, user-friendly, super powerful discussion platform as Discourse.

The chat feature that’s coming to Discourse will absolutely kill it. No way back to Slack

When will you enroll enable_fast_edit to the Teams?

Within days probably, next deploy will pick it up.

Ha! And I just did it again to fix the same error that I made the last time! This time, I did it on mobile. It rocks on mobile too.

Is it possible to confirm the edit with a keyboard shortcut? ctrl + enter maybe? Currently it seems that there is no other way than clicking the button.

 It’s coming at some point yes

Thanks, this feature makes our lives easier!

With some themes the Save edit is difficult to read. It’s almost impossible with Grey Amber.

After editing

Maybe the button could look like the reply button or the save edit button when you don’t fast edit

I started to use this feature and it turns out to be one of the biggest time savers when it comes to small things that distract a little bit but often. Now a quick typo fix is a super easy, and it happens many times a day, every day. Thank you!

P.S. I’m too missing a shortcut to submit the edit.

Only just came across this and at least in our forum there appears the ability for NON moderators to use the function on other peoples posts !
This concerns me a great deal as it may be an open invite to spammers and trolls.
Just looking for a confirmation that it is NOT available in that type of scenario.
