How can I invite an existing non-staff user to a topic in the staff category?
Previously there was an “invite” button, but no I only see a “Notify” button.

Hey,
I think you’ve answered your own question here. As #staff is a private category users who are not either admin or moderator won’t be able to access this category hence there not being an ‘Invite’ button.

Previously I think it was possible to do just that: Invite other users to a topic that they usually can not see because it is in a restricted category, and due to the invite, the topic became visible for this user.
Is my memory wrong or is the above true only for non-staff categories and topics?

Permissions are at a category level, not the topic level. I’m pretty site that you’ve never invited anyone to view a topic in a category they can’t see.

I think you might be confused with a personal message topic. That allows people to be invited to it.
