Is it possible for a user to select categories to have in cat list (not only at registration but anytime)

1. Is it possible for a user to select categories in a list of available categories to display in user’s Category list? (Not only at registration time but at anytime, for adding or removing them?) The idea is to display only categories the user is interested in?

2. Is it possible for the user to customizing the order in which Categories display in Category?

3. If the possible category list is long, is it possible to do a search in possible categories?
   Maybe we can display them in groups or sub-menus…

4. Is it possible to make categories either “free to be added” in user’s category list, while for others, they would require authorization?

5. Is it possible, to know all categories a user has, with email? One use case is to send email announcements to those interested in specific categories and if the emailing targets more than one category, users having more than one of these categories will not receive more than one email?
   (Here it is just to describe the context, but if you know any element about such emailing…)

The category list in the sidebar can be customised by clicking this icon (shown on hover) to add or remove categories as they like:

The categories can also be muted. A muted category won’t show on /categories (or at least: it will show all the way at the bottom in a hidden section).

No search is available on that page. But you could make only a few categories and then add subcategories to them. If you then use this setting to organise the category page, it might be less long:

Hmm, not exactly. You can restrict categories to certain user groups in the security settings:

Users that can’t see the category, can’t add it anywhere. But there is no default way to let them ask for access. What would be your usecase here?
