This is almost similar to “accept terms and conditions before proceeding”, but I want this to me a more “friendly” thing, and shorter.
Since my forum is a bit different from the conventional forum, I want people to just get a general idea of what it is, how it works, and also give them a few links to other topics that I find they should read when they have more time. I don’t want that topic to be lost if they have full access to everything right away.
So when they log in they won’t see most things in the sidebar and they will only see a topic right away that kinda forces them to read it and then some mechanism that will ask them to click a button to “continue” to unlock the full forum.
You can put those topics in a category available to TL0 and not let them out of TL0 (and see the other categories) until they have read how every many topics you want them to read.
Can you clarify how this works: I enter 5 topics, but what does it mean “read 30 posts” (which I assume are the replies?). What counts as “post read”? Just that the post is loaded on the screen?
Also, is it possible to leave the Trust Levels as they are and create another group that is automatically assigned to new users (e.g. “New User”) and once they read that many topics, then get promoted to TL0?
Since it’s probably just 1 topic that I want them to read, I didn’t want to automatically promote them from TL0 to TL1 without all the default TL0 requirements being met, if that makes sense?
I was looking at creating a new group and set it to Automatically set as primary group, then use Automation, but in Automation there’s nothing related to this type of workflow.
EDIT: I was just looking at the Trust Levels page. For some reason I thought the process was a bit more complex, because I was also thinking about the badges, which have many different “goals”. So the TLs rules are just the ones on that admin/config/trust-levels page, right?
Yes “read” means it’s been displayed on their screen. I promise that whatever you do, people will not read your text.
You can use badge sql and some other magic to move them to a group when they get a certain badge. You can do that, but they still won’t read your stuff. I’d just use the trust levels, it’s pretty much what they are designed for.
