Ooops, although I have 15 new topics and 139 unread ones here on Meta, none appear in either tab.
I run v2.3.0.beta9 +48 at home, and this issue is not there yet.
I’m not able to reproduce this problem. Do you have any errors in your browser console? Does the issue persist after a refresh?

I guess this is due to the upgrade. There must have been some caching issue. I had reloaded, but not without cache, and when I navigated back to the gu and gn with the console opened, I could not reproduce either.
That said I had a (maybe unrelated) CSP issue in this very topic:
Content Security Policy: The page’s settings blocked the loading of a resource at https://meta.discourse.org/t/new-and-unread-topic-lists-disappeared/116421 (“base-uri”).
