Notification email without external link

Happy and healthy 2021 everyone!

We send out information to our subscribers with topics in one categrory. The topic contains several links to other topics in our forum, and additionally at least one external link which leads to a download package.

We don’t want everybody (who gets that email forwarded etc) to download that package, only those who can log in and see this (restricted) category. Thus, we don’t want the external link to appear in the notification email.

Is there a way to achieve this? I could imagine changing the link to that of the topic itself, or just dropping it from the email.

If you need specific permissions on file downloads you will need to use a third party cloud file storage platform and distribute the download password somehow.

Discourse is not intended as a file storage platform and thus does not focus on file security.

Solution: We were able to achieve our goal with the nice theme component Auto linkify words.
