To reproduce:
- write a PM
- internet connexion down
- While it is down click on send
- the editor closes, showing
Saving in progress - I cannot re-expand the editor
When I open another Tab only the title of the draft is restored
So the draft is lost.

I carefully followed your steps and didn’t lose my post content when I re-enabled my internet connection.
My guess is that the forum hadn’t yet saved the message. A draft is created a few seconds after you stop typing. Maybe your internet connection was lost while you were writing the beginning of your message (or you didn’t stop writing for a long enough time), and thus no draft was created.
