I managed to successfully move the forum to another server via import so can upgrade the kernel on the old server and try rebuilding again later if you like - however I suspect that is not the issue, the issue seems to be related to multiple containers, and where two were regularly kept updated, and two were not (it was the older two that failed to rebuild).
