When in dark mode on my iPhone, if I get an email notice from a TidBits discussion and want to reply by email (using standard iOS Mail) something about the email formatting in the email I’m replying to forces the background AND the letters I’m typing in to be white. So it’s almost impossible to read what I’m trying to type in.
it appears to be a combination of the default dark mode styling within the Discourse email template and how the iPhone handles (or mishandles) that styling. Is there a setting the user can switch to change this? Or maybe a quick and easy CSS fix I can add to an email template?
Thanks so much for this report — we can reproduce this too and would like to get it fixed up for you! I’ve passed along this report to our engineering team and we will work on correcting this problem. I don’t have an ETA for when it might be fixed yet, but we’ll update you once we know more.
Hey Ryan — thanks for reaching out! I’m sorry to report that I don’t have an update yet. We have this work queued in our backlog and hope to get to it soon!
I was curious how this works and I think this might be a bug in the “view” when replying [1]. Because if you send that email, and load it in the “regular” mail view, the colors are correct
I think they might be stripping too much style in the reply view, or they don’t do the same “processing” to handle light vs dark mode.
or we haven’t found the proper incentation that Apple is expecting to correctly handle dark mode. ↩︎
