Replying in iPhone Mail in dark mode - input is white characters on white background

When in dark mode on my iPhone, if I get an email notice from a TidBits discussion and want to reply by email (using standard iOS Mail) something about the email formatting in the email I’m replying to forces the background AND the letters I’m typing in to be white. So it’s almost impossible to read what I’m trying to type in.

Can that be fixed?

Hi @Doug_Lerner, that’s definitely something that needs to be looked at. What version of iOS is your phone using?

Somewhat unrelated, but there’s another issue related to dark-mode emails on iOS devices that needs to be looked into: Digest email: logo color/background conflict (light/dark mode) - #11 by simon.

It’s using iOS 17.0.3. Thanks.

I’ve got a report of the same issue with white text on white background…

when the user tries to type a reply on his iPhone, the white text on light gray bg makes it almost impossible to read (see the “Hi there” text below…)

it appears to be a combination of the default dark mode styling within the Discourse email template and how the iPhone handles (or mishandles) that styling. Is there a setting the user can switch to change this? Or maybe a quick and easy CSS fix I can add to an email template?

Thanks

Thanks so much for this report — we can reproduce this too and would like to get it fixed up for you! I’ve passed along this report to our engineering team and we will work on correcting this problem. I don’t have an ETA for when it might be fixed yet, but we’ll update you once we know more.
