This issue reappeared.
I just disabled chat on Discourse Meta, and it permanently disappeared from the preferences. I cannot find the chat settings anymore.
When I open https://meta.discourse.org/u/25w31b/preferences/chat, it redirects to https://meta.discourse.org/latest.
It’s a bit different, that first time it could be seen but didn’t work. This time it’s gone. I can reproduce this, by the way.

Just updated to 2026.3.0-latest (fb8ef7ee72) and still doesn’t work unfortunately. But this time I can turn chat on but it just doesn’t show up on the webiste.
This is not an issue you can have on your site so Im confused.
Does this occur in safe mode?
Since chat is a plugin, it’s important to leave official plugins enabled when enabling safe mode.
And you were right. This was - surprise, surprise - DNS issue. All good, everything works.
