http://embed.ly/ is a service which is automatically displaying thumbnails and rich media previews for videos when a new link is posted (in a discussion).
Is there a way to use it on discourse(or something similar)?

Discourse has Onebox which is open source and relatively easy to extend. If there’s any content you want to embed in your Discourse forum but can’t, post a feature request here on meta. As long as the originating website provides any form of embedding service, I’m sure it can be included in the oneboxer.

embed.ly is a paid service, and requires access keys, so it won’t work for Discourse.
The onebox gem which @elberet linked above does the same thing.
