Visible to all when editing the personalized left side bar

Hi, there is a setting “visible to all” when editing the left menu side bar, what is it for and does it applies for the whole section or individually for each item of the menu? Thanks.

When you add a custom sidebar section you can make that (all the links in that section) visible to everyone or create it only for yourself. That’s the purpose of the checkbox.
The first section of the sidebar is always visible to everyone, you cannot change that. In general links you add to that section are visible for everyone. So when you add a link to a category to which only some users can see, those who cannot will still see the link. But the link to the admin area and review queue are not visible for everyone.

There is a theme component Navigation (sidebar) menu display control which allows you to show or hide a section for example for visitors.

Ok I see, but the “category” section for example is always private is it? Because I do not see that visibility checkbox in the edit category box.

Would it be possible to restore the settings to default for the category section so as all existing members inherit that new setting?

The customizations you do by clicking the pencil in the categories section are personal. To edit the default, you can use the default navigation menu categories site setting.
