Why does updating the owner bump the topic to the top

Amazingly, this request goes back to 2017:

Hello again, One more: once the author of a post is changed successfully and the modal pop up is closed, the underlying topic flies all the way to the top instead of staying in place where the changed authorship took place. Ideally it’d remain still so context wouldn’t be lost.

Sadly, there was no response there.

I believe the reason for this is that changing the ownership counts as an edit to the topic post. IIRC if there are replies then the topic won’t bump, only those topics with the topic posts and no replies bump.

I suppose you could hide the edit and reset bump date? Not 100% sure if that’ll work, though.
