Two users, GetReadyMan and litvakfeliks, experienced the “WARNING: Port 443 of computer” issue when installing Discourse on a Digital Ocean droplet.
GetReadyMan was seeing a GoDaddy holding page instead of his Discourse installation, which was due to his domain name not being properly pointed to the droplet’s IP address. After updating the DNS records, he was able to complete the installation.
litvakfeliks had a similar issue, but the problem persisted even after pointing his domain to the droplet’s IP address. Further investigation revealed that the domain was not resolving correctly, with a ping test returning the IP address 127.0.1.1. pfaffman suggested using a DNS checker to test the domain and resolve the issue.
A Noob here trying to install Discourse on a Digital Ocean droplet and getting the Port 443 warning.
Hostname for your Discourse? [discourse.example.com]: discourse.chaffeespeaks.com
Checking your domain name . . .
WARNING: Port 443 of computer does not appear to be accessible using hostname: discourse.chaffeespeaks.com.
WARNING: Connection to http://discourse.chaffeespeaks.com (port 80) also fails.
GoDaddy won’t have installed anything on a Digital Ocean server.
At a guess you’re seeing a GoDaddy holding page due to the DNS record either being wrong, not existing, or it’s still cached
If you visit your domain name from a different device on a different network (eg. Smartphone on cell/mobile network instead of WiFi network) do you still see the GoDaddy page?
I have the same problem with Digital Ocean droplet “WARNING: Port 443”. It is [diskusia.ucto.info] and it is pointed to the IP of the droplet 46.101.190.207 There is no CDN with the hosting hostarmada between the DNS and the droplet. But it cannot be installed becasue of the port 443. I was traying also other domain registered with other provider, but there is the same error.
