Invite Users to a PM

Lhc_fl is trying to understand the “Invite users to a PM” feature, specifically why TL1 users can invite others to PMs despite the “min trust level to invite” being set to TL2. JammyDodger clarifies that the issue might be related to a separate setting and offers to review the feature.

After testing, JammyDodger finds that the feature is working as expected, with TL2 users able to invite non-members to PMs, but TL1 users not having this option. Lhc_fl realizes that the issue was due to a misunderstanding of the “Invite user” option and apologizes for the mistake. JammyDodger reassures that it’s a common misunderstanding due to the feature being one of the lesser-known Trust Level perks.

Can you help me explain this?

I set the “min trust level to invite” to TL2, but TL1 users can still invite users to PM.

It sounds a little like you mean ‘they can create PMs’? If so, that’s a separate setting.

I’ll have a run through of the invite feature when I get a moment to see if it’s working as expected, just to make sure. :+1::slightly_smiling_face:

Really appreciate your reply! :slightly_smiling_face:

No, they do can invite users into a existing PM.

Is this a version issue? The discourse version of my forum is 2.8.8, not the latest.

I’ve just had a run-through and it seems to be working okay for me. :+1:

I created a PM between a TL2 and a TL1 test user, and tried to invite another non-member to the PM using the :link: menu at bottom of the PM:

However, for my TL1 user there is no Invite option:

Does that help?

Thank you very much!

I totally get it now. I’m not a native English speaker, I mistook “invite user” for “add user” earlier.

Sorry for the stupid mistake I made. :upside_down_face:

There is no need to apologise, it is one of the lesser-known Trust Level perks so can often catch people out.
