I have wrapped up my Discourse forum as a TWA, and I’m curious about the possibility of enabling Play Billing in my forum. I can’t find any relevant documents on Meta, and as per ask.discourse.com, this might not be simply possible. However, according to Receive Payments via Google Play Billing with the Digital Goods API and the Payment Request API | Web on Android | Chrome for Developers , we can do it. So, would this be possible?
What’s a TWA?
The only direct payment plugins I’m aware of are the official Subscription plugin that uses Stripe and you may find some crypto related ones?
You might be able to attempt charge for the Play entry but you may get some annoyed users if they realise they could have just added to Home Screen from Chrome
There is no deeper Play or Appstore integration with in-app purchases afaik.
Maybe you can build it and share?
Hahaha, actually I’m trying to enable a subscription model, and from what I know, if the app is on the Play Store and uses services like Stripe or similar for charges, it violates the Play Store’s policies. So I would have to somehow enable Google Play billing.
Relax, get your app released and add the Subscription plugin later
Google & Apple are blatant duopolies and get no sympathy from me.
They should be honoured to have your app released on their platform.
Installing as PWA is so easy now maybe just create a banner and add instructions.
That’s a smart move, just hoping they might not ban me in the future.
What advantage is it to you to release on their platform?:
- people can find you through web search in any case (assuming you have sufficiently good and public content)
- your users can in any case install directly to their homescreen without involving any app store.
If they do not understand how easy it is, that’s their loss.
