I just improved the Invite feature, now you can copy invite link and send a personalized invitation email to your users!

To generate copyable invite link go to your invites page, click on “Send an Invite” button, enter the email of the user you want to invite, now click on “Copy Invite Link” button:

That’s it, now you will see copyable invite link:

Copy and paste away! :link: :scissors: :pencil: :email:

User invite process improvements
Make invitation email text customizable by admin or inviter
generate_invite_link API endpoint throws 500 if invite already redeemed
Invite link should not auto-accept invitation if user is already logged in
Enabling instant user activation?
"Copy link address" for :link: share link popup?
Why do new users need to click an extra button to Activate their account?

Great! Could this auto-select the link, just as the permalink feature can?

I’m refocusing our invite process around this feature.

Rather than telling people to expect an email, I’m including it in an email to them. Brilliant!

Looking at the text in the dialog box… it’s all useful, not just the URL.

Would it be easy enough to allow me to copy the text inside & outside the well in the same fell swoop?

Discourse Meta
Invite link is only valid for this email address: user@domain.com

I’ll understand if it’s just too ugly… to select both lines, or if there’s no desire to print the URL in plain text next to the invite text.

This isn’t something I feel super strongly about… but it’d help keep things sorted as I copy/paste invites.

GoToMeeting does it this way too. On the screen it says:

and when you hit copy to clipboard it provides fuller instructions to email/chat to invitees:

  1. Please join my meeting.

  1. Use your microphone and speakers (VoIP) - a headset is recommended. Or, call in using your telephone.
