I am quite new to Discourse, I have a little experience in JS frontend frameworks.
I was curious how hard / complex would it be to change the categories page to be similar to CGSociety’s ( https://forums.cgsociety.org ?
I am liking Discourse very much I just don’t really like the categories layout.
If someone has any suggestions where should I start, I’d really appreciate it Thanks in advance, I’ll be searching the documentation/forums in the meanwhile.

In your admin settings, try changing the default view for desktop category page style
I use one similar to the one you’ve linked there. It’s Categories with Featured Topics.
Experiment with that setting to find one that suits you better.
