Default categories muted for subcategory not working

I set a subcategory default muted, but it still appears on the latest page.
I tried manually setting the category to be muted, and it worked.
However, I would like to make it a default setting for all users.

Sorry for the delayed response. I’ve just tried for a repro on my test site and it appears to be working for me. Is this still an issue for you?

My step-by-step:

  • Create a new category, and set it as a subcategory
  • Create a topic in the subcategory
  • Set the subcategory in default categories muted and apply changes historically

  • Open site in new private window to check as anon
    • topic in subcategory does not appear in Latest
  • Log in as test user
    • topic in subcategory does not appear in Latest
  • As admin who created the topic, set topic notification level to ‘normal’
    • topic in subcategory no longer appears in Latest
