Great point below by @mcwumbly on using Slack with Discourse. Both that and @erlend_sh blog post have been extremely useful for my communication strategy development.

Ty for this post @erlend_sh ! Super informative! And giving some answer to questions i had from a long time.
In our small group we increased the use of whatsapp and as a result Vbullettin forum post collapsed.
Having moved on mobile people feel more easy and immediate to use WA.
I’ve set up a Discourse forum which is much more mobile friendly to counter this trend.
But chat is still very active and forum is quieter than i would like… (Users are still getting used to the new platform so i need more time to see the final effect!)
I would like to know if there are some suggested way to integrate forum and chat.
I see many plugins for chat platforms (not whatsapp) but it seems to me they are meant to push important thread from the forum to the chat to highlight them more.
I wanted to know if there is something to get part or all the chat and import it in the forum.
i agree that chat and forum are different mediums but i think it’s worth to integrate them better!

In diesem Artikel heißt es immer wieder, dass Discourse nicht gut für Echtzeitkommunikation, also Chat-Threads, geeignet ist.
Ist das wirklich so?
- Discourse bewältigt große Themen mit über 100.000 Nachrichten
- Discourse bietet die Funktion „Benutzer tippt…“, die das Gefühl vermittelt, es handele sich um „Echtzeitkommunikation“ – genau wie bei einem Chat
- Man kann einfach eine Kategorie „Chats“ erstellen und pro Chat ein eigenes Thema anlegen
In gewissem Sinne ist Slack also eine Teilmenge von Discourse.
Bei der Nutzung von Discourse für Echtzeit-Chats wäre jedoch eine enge Integration mit den Thread-Diskussionen und der Wissensdatenbank vorteilhaft, falls diese in Discourse gehostet werden.
Habe ich etwas übersehen?
P.S. Das Einzige, was Discourse meiner Meinung nach bei Echtzeit-Chats noch fehlt, ist die „kompakte Ansicht“ – denn Chats bestehen oft aus kurzen Nachrichten, aber es gibt sehr viele davon.

Nun, in zukünftigen Releases bringen wir eine Chat-Funktionalität nach Discourse. Das ist etwas, worauf wir gerade hinarbeiten. Wir sind der Meinung, dass Discourse allein in der Lage ist, die kurzen (Chat) und langen (Absatz/Thema) Formen der Erinnerung miteinander zu verbinden!

Ich schlage vor, ein neues #feature-Thema zu eröffnen. Vielleicht solltest du jedoch bis zum ersten Release warten – ich möchte nicht, dass du all diese Zeit damit verbringst, großartige Ideen auszuarbeiten, nur um festzustellen, dass wir sie bereits integriert haben oder dass sie nicht mit der Art und Weise funktionieren, wie der Chat in Discourse eingerichtet ist.
