Horizon Theme New Theme Info Button Layout

I think the Info button (when new topic button is disabled) does not look as expected (screenshot taken today from Meta)

Hey @tvavrda, thanks for letting us know. We’re working on updating this area, which should resolve the issue you are seeing here.

That work is in progress, but once it is complete, the New Topic button will be selectable even when viewing categories where you can’t create topics — the category field will be blank when that happens, and you’ll need to select a category that isn’t read-only before you can post the topic.

We’ll follow up here once that work is deployed to confirm that fixes things here as we expect it will.

Is that a feature for all themes or Horizon specific? I think it worked like this before and the innovation was to include the message so it seems to me as a step back?

This is for all themes, not just Horizon.

Our thinking has changed here a little — blocking the New Topic button when viewing a read-only category is making an assumption that the user wants to create a topic within that category, but that may not be true. They may just happen to be looking at a read-only category before creating a topic under a different category.

When the category they’re viewing isn’t read-only, we try to help by pre-populating the viewed category. When the category they’re viewing is read-only, we can’t do that, so we’re just leaving it blank. If the user tries to select the read-only category, they will see that it’s disabled with a “read-only” label.

Hey @lindsey so I see you just implemented that. So what happens to the Banner text when a user cannot create a topic in this category: setting in the category settings? It seems to me that it has no way to appear.
