How to distinguish new topic and reply

Hi,

I want to add a checkbox in the reply area when replying but not in creating a new topic, but I found the html id both are reply-control and reply-area. So how can I add in replying but not affect creating a topic.

#reply-control also gets the class .topic when it’s a new topic (or .private-message for PMs).
