How to enable (3+ level) nested subcategories

Hello Discourse team,

I run a community that would greatly benefit from allowing more than one level of subcategory (e.g., sub-subcategories). Our use case is for a community forum and the current structure is restrictive because we have few sub categories to be created upto 5.

If 3 or even 5 levels of nested categories could be supported, it would allow us to build the forum. I’ve seen similar requests from others and would love to see this feature prioritized, even as a plugin.

You need to have access to the server where Discourse is running. If you’re hosted somewhere, you’ll need to ask whoever is running the server to do this for you.

cd /var/discourse
./launcher enter app
rails c
SiteSetting.max_category_nesting = 3
exit
exit

More often, such communities would greatly benefit from using tags.

Note that while max_category_nesting exists, it only supports up to 3 levels.
