Iāve just tried this out and I get an error when I click Save Invite if I put an email address in the Restrict To field. Iāve had a read through a few related posts but canāt see what I may be doing wrong, or if thereās a site parameter causing it.
For our community, which we want to be by invite only, we want to be able to designate which topic post and which group the invites take the new person. We do not want to have to rely on the members who have invite privileges to remember or ensure they adjust invites to the appropriate topic post and group for anyone coming into the community. Based upon historical data from the platform where we first started before moving to a discourse platform, most will just open an invite and send it not making any adjustments or changes, and this allows the new members to be in areas they should not be in yet, plus then they donāt see the first topic post we want them to see that provides directions to them on what to do first, second, third, etc. Is there a setting somewhere that makes the invites members send follow what we want it to follow.
We could use ātypesā of invites as well, so if they want to send an invite to a person brand new to the topic of the community they would send, say, a āmember inviteā but if they want to send an invite to someone who provides supporting services to members of the community they would send perhaps a āsupporting inviteā, as those people would be sent to a different group and initial topic post. Again, ideally, these would be already pre-set for members to use so the invitees go to the appropriate place and group without making the members change settings or remember to make the appropriate choices.
If these options are available somewhere, I havenāt found them.
There is a setting to change which trust levels can send invites.
If you go to the invite modal, and you click on the link to edit the invite options, you can also edit where the invite link will end up. You can set it to the āWelcome to the forumā topic.
Thank you, yes, we will be deciding which trust level will have invite privileges (for our community nothing less than 2 or 3 for sure; however I am not sure we want all trust level 2ās & 3ās to have invite privileges - and thus something we have to work out, Iām trying to also explore if we can assign a particular group to be the only ones, besides staff and Level 4ās, to have invite privileges, no matter if they are in 2 or 3 - so that only people in that group can invite others). I will go explore the place to indicate where the invite link ends up - but if Iām reading everything correctly, each person with invite privileges can change those settings, unfortunately. Thank you so much.
Yeah, currently thatās the way it is. Users with invite privileges can edit the invite as they please, though some settings are only available to users with the appropriate privileges:
Saving presets like this isnāt currently possible. Itās a interesting idea though.
I donāt think itās been suggested before, but I could be wrong. (Iāve made a brief search through Featureinvites). Feel free to create a new feature topic for this if youād like to explore the idea more.
