New users aren't starting the discobot tutorial

Ah, not all sites have Discobot set up the same. Ours is the default experience here, so if you do try it out further let us know how you get on. :+1:

I totally agree with you. As you, I also was looking for a place where “for the tutorial, click here” was written.
At last, I thought the answer was hidden too, but it was not. It take some time to realize

If we operate Discobot with artificial intelligence, would it provide a more engaging and effective learning experience? Additionally, the points or badges earned after basic training could serve as a valuable incentive.

This would really do well with some UX magic applied to it - and maybe some AI smarts if they are available on the instance.

As it is, the uptake of the tutorial is very poor, and hardly any of my new users seem to find it/them without me signposting it super clearly to them.

I’m sure we can do this better.

It’s very important to remember when proposing changes here – any individual human only needs to complete the tutorial once, on any forum.

The things it teaches are universally transferable to all other Discourse forums. Completion somewhere else is good enough.

This is a great point. I hope the admins at the dozen or so other Discourse-based forums I frequent aren’t fretting that I never took their Discobot tutorial.

(Asana, Atlassian, Baserow, Bitwarden, BoingBoing, Canonical, Cloudflare, Ghost, Johnny Decimal, Kirby CMS, Manjaro, Mozilla, Obsidian, Signal… Discourse is everywhere!)

The majority of my users are having their first Discourse exposure when they join my site; I suspect that you two are outliers.

But yes, we don’t want it too intrusive or it will irritate the Discourse-savvy (if you are lucky enough to have them!)

Fair enough – I’m sure it depends on the nature of the forum. (And yes I’m probably a bit too online.)

I do think Discobot could be made more discoverable—particularly the advanced tutorial—without becoming a bother.
