Possible side effects of sub-sub-categories

Me and the staff on the forum I help run started looking at triple layering categories (sub-sub-categories), but we had a few questions:

  1. What would break? (Mainly, what plugins/theme components would break as a result of this change? We use lots of plugins, mostly official ones)
  2. What would we never be able to undo?
  3. Are there any side effects related to this?
  4. Does anyone have any suggestions for things to look into prior to making this change?
