Prevent Topics or Posts from Self Deletion

Let’s say a user posts a topic (or post) and then that topic is significantly developed with responses, and then a week later the OP decides they don’t like where the conversation went and goes to either delete the topic or remove the content from their original post.

Besides a moderator closing the whole thread, what options are available?

Is the any configuration around an automatic way to prevent a topic being deleted by the OP after some time or events have occurred?

Case in point, this thread has been closed by my mod but the OP went and edited out content from all of his posts: Possible neglect case? - Ball Pythons - MorphMarket Reptile Community

This actually goes against GDPR so I don’t think it exists in core. Additionally, if a user wants their content removed, they want it removed.

That’s a good point. But are they able to delete the whole topic? That includes content which is not their own.

If you want to lock a topic use the Archive option.

You can also change the edit window into a smaller period.

There are site settings that control how long you can edit a post for.

  • post edit time limit – A tl0 or tl1 author can edit their post for (n) minutes after posting. Set to 0 for forever.

  • tl2 post edit time limit – A tl2+ author can edit their post for (n) minutes after posting. Set to 0 for forever.
