This is what I could find with regards to previous discussion: Click counter missing for some internal links . However, oneboxed links were not discussed.
I also found this quote:
All external links should have counters. Internal links… maybe topics should (@codinghorror ’s call) but other stuff should not.
There is also a visual component here, we can not sprinkle numbers all over a onebox… so … start with what you consider totally weird and we can work our way in.
Personally, I believe that internal links that get oneboxed should be click-tracked because it incentives posting links as oneboxes. I have knowingly posted links multiple times in a non-oneboxed format just so that I could see how many times people clicked on my links.
