I have same problem. I believe that in the future an implementation based on pre-defined labels (product a, product b, bug, feature, etc) will be more efficient. thus creating a topic, you select the desired tags:
[product a] [bug]
or
[product b] [feature]
anyway, there should be a technical reason to use categories rather than labels.
The tag vs categories debate will probably go on until someone writes a plugin.
But I’m just asking for a tweak that fits into the current category/subcategory system.
Category name uniqueness should probably only be enforced among siblings.
I think this should be allowed, but will require a bunch of backend work to support it.
Additionally, the UI would be a bit problematic cause when you see bug
you would not know what parent category it belongs to.
See the latest proposal here regarding that issue:
Is anyone working on this feature? For me it’s really important as I have the same use case as OP
no one is working on this now, but we are open to a PR in this area
so is this possible now?
Yes this is possible for subcategories now.
